I used to be a non-believer in sleep aids until my roommate suggested Melatonin. I was amazed!
I consider myself a former insomniac. I don't rely on the Melatonin but it's great for the nights when I can't sleep!

Almost always puts me to sleep with in 20 minutes.

I purchased Metatonin last fall after suffering some insomnia all summer. Within about an hour of taking the pill, I was asleep! If you are unable to sleep at night but don't want to get something stronger from your doctor, I would strongly recommend trying melatonin first.

Pros:
The low dosage make me feel very confident about taking the suppliment. It was inexpensive.
Cons:
The effectiveness of this suppliment varies. On some nights it knocks me out in about an hour. On other nights it doesn't seem to work at all. Usually it works, but sometimes it does not. |

If I remember to take it early (1 to 1-1/2 hours ahead), and that's a big IF, then it will help me to get to sleep in a reasonable amount of time. However, it doesn't work for my son at all. We both experience a drug out feeling the next day, sometimes accompanied by a headache. If we have no other options, we turn to this . . . at least until the bottle runs out. We won't be replacing it.

Cons:
DO NOT take if you are pregnant, nursing or if you are currently using an SSRI anti-depressant. Because melatonin plays a role in the chemical balance within our bodies there are a number of conditions which require a doctors consultation prior to use: depression, epilepsy, diabetes, stroke, liver or kidney disease or disorders of immune system. |
