Ginger root is best known for it's use in anti-nausea. Double-blind studies have even shown it to be more effective than Dramamine. We used this frequently when my step-daughter suffered from car sickness. Worked wonderfully.
These days it has taken on a new use in the household. It has anti-coagulant properties or anti-clotting tendencies. Highly important in warding off thrombosis.
Preliminary studies are suggestive that it may help lower cholesterol levels as well.
Some have used it to help with the pain from arthritis, but I do not have personal knowledge regarding it's effectiveness for this use.

Pros:
Anti-clotting agent/blood thinner. Great for nausea
Cons:
Discontinue prior to surgery or notify your doctor of your use, it is a blood thinner. Should be used with caution if also taking a rx thinner or daily aspirin. In our household we chose to do away with the rx and remain with the natural options. This option should only be made following personal research to make an informed decision based upon your own unique situation. |
