Artichoke Leaf Extract Tincture's active ingredient is cynarin. This can be found in one of the prescription drugs proprietary ingredient list. Said drug company claims they can't say if it is what is working of if it's their drug mix so they leave it in just in case. (okay, maybe I do look that stupid but ...) Long story short, DH was placed on statins in 2001. After side effects and some research we tried artichoke extract. His numbers were better on the extract than they were on the statins! Too, cynarin is great for the liver, supposedly boosting bile production by up to 60%. We bought one bottle and after that purchased organic artichokes and made our own tinctures.

Pros:
Improves cholesterol, lowers blood pressure, blood cleanser, mild diuretic, and very liver healthy!
Cons:
DO NOT dump your statins and switch to this without notifying your doctor (it is best to obtain his permission but at the very least he needs to know what you are doing) While it is beneficial to the gallbladder, if you have gallbladder problems, do not begin using this item without consulting with your doctor first. As with almost all tinctures, it tastes terrible. |
